Topic: Don't put your Joy in Possession.

Text: James 1:9-11
Key text: Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted:   (James 1:9 KJV)

Discussion: Change is inevitable. But change can go either way, it may be positive or negative, to someone below change brings him up, therefore if only on the position, Possession, or progress that you are making is what gives you Joy, then your Joy will be short lived. And that means don't put your treasure to accumulating things of temporal value, else your Joy shall be temporary.

The story was told of a man that had six children, in the higher institution, he has been preparing for their school fees, several years before the first child got admission, and ever since he started preparing, it has become difficult to eat twice daily, but for the little farm, sometimes he would have had nothing to eat at times, his clothes were getting old and torn, but all this never made the man sad, because, he would say, I know my children will soon graduate, I will then have, all that I need...

This is typical of what should Give us Joy; our Joy should be in the Hope, that, we will soon meet our Savior, in the confidence that our stay is temporary here, that Heaven is our home.

Therefore let, him that is rich or poor, faint or strong, low or high, on the mountain top or the valley deep, REJOICE, not in thier state but in the hope of His return.

You might have been cast down, depressed, fearful and might think there is no hope but today, God is saying, rejoice for your exaltation Has come, is your business failing, are you failing in your academics, do you lack capital to start that project, are you weak, weary or sick, today I declare to you A change for Good has come, cheer up and Believe God.

Challenge: where is your Joy, and treasure, are you preparing to have an abode in Heaven?

Prayer: Let my situation change for the better, as I walk with you preparing for Heaven

Topic: Power of Faith
Text: James 1:5-8
Key text:  But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering… (James 1:6 KJV)

Discussion

Our text today shows us God’s provision for us and his will to give out these things he has prepared, to as many as will ask, the verse says “if any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him”, this is revealing to Us God’s plan for our life, He knows that wisdom is all we need in all we do, just as the Psalmist said, “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom…” whatever we want, once we get the wisdom of God, we can have them. However, the passage of today makes us to see one of the secrets of answered prayer which is Faith. Having the understanding that, that which we are asking of God, he has, and also wills to give it to us, then it will be limiting, or underrating God’s ability, when we ask and we fail to have the faith to claim the promise. Jesus said, if a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone… (Luke 11:11 Kjv) God is more than a father, he loves us, and even it is in his love, that he sent Jesus to the world, if we believed that, and we are saved, then, what stops us from believing that he can do all things.
Are you still a sinner? I want to tell you that the promise is to the Children: and the food of the Children cannot be given to the Dogs, it would be wise, if you will turn out of your sin and accept Jesus as your Lord and savior. This way you will become a son and have right to ask anything from God and He will do it for you.

Challenge: Have faith in God
Prayer: help me to grow in faith and remain unwavering.

Topic: Perfect in Patience

Text:  James 1:1-4

Key Text: But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. (James 1:4 KJV)

Discussion: James exhorts that we should “…count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations…” This is to remind us of something important that when we are faced with temptation, it is a test for promotion; this is why he says “the trying of your faith worketh patience”. We need to be patient in temptation, it may come as difficulty, and you may find it difficult to cope with. But remember Jesus said “my grace is sufficient for you”.

However, it is sad that many are fallen into temptation and gone astray. Such are said to have failed the test, and they need to repent.  Some have boasted, like peter: I will never leave you, but today they have denied Christ more than thrice. Yet they fail to return to Christ like peter did. And such people have missed the opportunity of promotion, which is the purpose of their test, rather, it’s become to them total alienation from the kingdom of God except they repent.

How many times have you missed God’s promotion by failing temptation, saying I could repent?
Remember God’s test for Abraham was his Isaac, and for that, God blessed him when he passed the test. And that’s why verse 4 says “let patience have its perfect work and that you may be perfect, and entire, wanting nothing. If you want God’s blessing, you must be patient in temptation, persecution, trial, and in all areas.

Moses said stand still and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will show thee this day. As you go today, be patient in God, and you will see his salvation in Jesus name.

Challenge: How often have you missed God’s appointment by impatience?

Prayer: Lord, help me to wait patiently till your perfect will be done in me.
