Glorious Living Devotional : Jan 12

Topic: obedience of Abraham

Text: Genesis 22-23

Key text: Genesis 22:10  And Abraham stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to slay his son.

Discussion: Today we read of how God instructed Abraham to take his only son, Isaac, whom he loved, the promise Child, his heir, and offer him for a burnt offering.

Come to think of it, if you were in his condition,  would you not have said, this cannot be from God, it must be the devil speaking, he wants to take away my blessing, But Abraham here exhibited great Faith, see the way he thought about it, the author of Hebrew puts it this way in  Hebrews 11:19  "Accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead... Is that your kind of Faith, when it seem all is about to crumble and God is demanding your service, will you account him able to make all things well?
Hear what Job said in Job 13:15  Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him.  What God expect of us is this kind of Faith, with obedience.

When we exhibit, Faith like this there is always a blessing, see the case of Abraham, in our text, chapter 22, the son was to sacrifice was replaced, he  "lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son." That's God, when he sends you on a difficult task, he goes before you to solve the problem, dear reader, as you go through this year, act in Faith Obeying God's word.

Observe verse, 16,17 and 18, God really blessed him, "for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son" this year if you want God to really bless you, don't withhold from God your Isaac, and this year you shall be blessed indeed.

Challenge: Great Blessing comes by Great giving

Prayer: Lord, I surrender my life to you, use it for your pleasure, and help my faith in trying times
