Glorious Living Devotional: Jan 8

Topic: A call to Perfection

Text: Genesis 16-18

Key text: Genesis 17:1  And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.

Discussion: In chapter 16 Abraham made a mistake, by taking heed to the unbelieving advice of his Wife, he could have waited for his Isaac but, Sarah seem to present an alternative, but this alternative, was a short lived Joy for Sarah, her handmaid now revile her for childlessness, but in chapter 17 amidst this, a call came to Abraham, to come higher, to come to a perfect walk with God, this was a demanding walk, he needs to circumcise himself and his males, this he did without hesitation, he was ready for a Perfect walk with God, He understood the perfect walk entails lending an helping hand to those in need, for this reason he entertained Angels whom he assumed to be pilgrims, there God reassured Abraham of his promise, that Sarah shall have a Child. A secret from God was revealed to Abraham about the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah.
Several lessons we could learn
1). There is no Shortcut, simply obey God and it shall be well with you.
2). Sanctification is a precursor to Perfect walk with God: circumcisions typifies sanctification, and sanctification, is a deliberate cutting away of weights that can sink our boat in the sea of the world as we take our voyage to the heavenly city, it is a deliberate separation fromv things that can lure us back to sin, and when we do this God knows that we are ready for him to impart in us his Holiness, that we may live a perfect life, and only then will the deep secret of God be revealed to us.
3). Your new life of sanctification will make you render an helping hand to those around you.
4). Pray for salvation of others and pray for the Nation.

Challenge: Have you lost the tastebud for the things of this world, or you still harbor the foreskin of worldliness

Prayer: Bring me Lord to your perfection, as I separate myself to you
