Sept 19: Divine Drawing, and our Pressing in.

Topic: Divine Drawing, and our Pressing in.

Text: Song of Solomon 1,2,3 & 4

Key Text: Song of Solomon 1:4

Draw me, we will run after thee: the king hath brought me into his chambers: we will be glad and rejoice in thee, we will remember thy love more than wine: the upright love thee.

Discussion:

The of Song of Solomon is a book of Love, that figuratively speaks of Christ the King, and his Bride, the Church.

As we come to this first part of the book, the Lord is showing us the his will and wish, he is willing that once we have been saved, we are to gladly press in for more of his love.

 Three things from this passage,

1. The Divine Drawing

2. The Duty of Dwellers

3. The Description of Dove.

1. The Divine Drawing

Our key verse says "Draw me..."  a phrase that typifies a request to give an invitation, and this is the invitation we have already in Matthew 11:28, "Come unto me..." This is the invitation to salvation, are you born again, Are you free from sin? If not, why wait? Arise! Behold he calleth you... He is calling you to come out of sin, and this can be done, by repentance and faith in God, if you will confess your sins to God he will have mercy, an pardon your sins.

After coming out of sin there is a duty demanded, we are to press in for him, don't stand at the door post of salvation come in, into the fullness of Blessings.

2. The Duty of Dwellers

"Draw me, we will run after thee: the king hath brought me into his chambers..."

After we are come into the kingdom we have a duty to press in for more, that was the life of Paul. Hear what he said in Philippians 3:13

Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,

He had a quest for more, he wanted something deeper, higher, better, no wonder his life was exceptionally great.

Today, we have a charge to press in for more. But more of what are we to press in for?

3. The Description of Dove.

The Dove here in Song of Solomon 2:14 is a description of the Church, the Saints, the people saved from Sin, and how do we describe them? In chapter 1 verse 15 and chapter 4 verse 1  The King says thou art fair and pleasant, and Chapter 4 gives us a full description

The Dove's eyes for the foresight, the teeth and lips describing the mouth, is washed, and speaks good things, not defiling things, the Neck is describing a balanced life, the breast typifies the evangelical mission of the Church and the Saints.

The question is, how beautiful is your life?

The beauty that God demands will come into us when we press in prayer, and study of God's word, and we go out evangelising others to bring them to Christ.

What do we press for?

We press to be More like him, we press for More of him and his presence, more of his love, more of his life, more of his Glory.

Challenge: How Beautiful is your life? Press in, for Greater Glory

Prayer: Beautify my life, and suit it for thy Purpose.

Topic: Our Call and Commitment to God

Text: Exodus 11, 12 &13

Key text: Exodus 13:3  And Moses said unto the people, Remember this day, in which ye came out from Egypt, out of the house of bondage; for by strength of hand the LORD brought you out from this place: there shall no leavened bread be eaten.

Discussion: to Israel, Egypt represent bondage, captivity, Satan and Sin, but our passage tells of how God brought Israel out of Egypt, the same way God has delivered us from the hand of Satan and Sin, the moment we acknowledge our sinfulness and repented, believing he died to set us free.

It is unfortunate however, that several who have been set free from sin, sit back in the Egypt of Sin, No, this aught not to be, you have to hurriedly leave Egypt. Your sins must be left far behind, and run with patience the race to Heaven, set before you.

For seven days after, their release they were to eat unleavened bread, what a significant point to note.
The seven Days signifies perfection and completeness. The unleavened bread typifies our unspotted Life, and Israel was to be committed to eating the unleavened bread for seven days, this illustrate to us that until our salvation is complete (till we see Jesus at the rapture) we are to to live an unspotted Life. Any soul that eats leaven bread will be cutoff, so also, He that looks back is not worthy of the kingdom.

God instructed Moses, to sanctify unto him the firstborn, this is also instructive that we are to sanctify a first place in our Life unto God, separate yourself wholely unto God, give him first place.  Several Christian fail in this area, of sanctification, they mix it up with Holiness, some think it is only In the hands of God to sanctify us, yes, God sanctifies us unto himself but we are to sanctify ourself unto God.

Here are some element of personal sanctification:
- Delebrate separation from sinful, friends and objects of Sin, (Acts 19:18-19; 2 Timothy 2:21. )
- Total Submission and surrender, (Matthew 19:27)
- 1 Thessalonians 5:22  Abstinence from all appearance of evil.
- Evangelism and Commitment to Service (Romans 12:1)

Personal sanctification is our response to God's Salvation. It is a result of a change within, resulting in a external transformation.

Challenge: We are called to serve God but to present an acceptable service, we must have a personal sanctification which precedes Divine sanctification (2 Timothy 2:21)

Prayer: sanctify me oh Lord to present an acceptable service.

Topic: Victory over Temptation

Text: James 1:12-16

Key text:  James 1:14  But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.

Discussion: temptation is common to all Christian pilgrim, if we are really on our way to heaven, there will always come temptations which we must overcome, if we will get to heaven, but to overcome we must understand this basic things about temptations: the Source, the strategy, the solution.

The Source: the ultimate source of temptation is the Devil, he comes in a cunny way, using your Self (flesh) or someone else,  how?

The Strategy: Having realized that Satan is the ultimate source of temptation, our text reveals the strategy he uses,

-Drawing away: Satan understands that when we are in the will of God, it becomes impossible to fall into temptation, so he dangles goodies before us, with a purpose of drawing us out of God's will. He tries to create a desire for the things of this world in us, of Which Jesus said, if any man love the world the love of the Father is not in him, this will make the individual to lust after that thing.

-Lust to lust is to passionately desire a thing, damming the consequence of getting that thing, it may be money, position, power, or anything.

When Satan has successfully drawn an individual away, and put within him a lust, Satan can then easily, capture such ca back into sin. Sometimes Satan uses things that are not sinful to lure men into sin, that is why we must learn to discipline ourself, deny ourself and carry our cross after him.

The Solution: Temptation is not a sin, but to fall into the suggestion to sin, is a sin, therefore we must be victorious over temptation, what is the solution, the way to be victorious over the tempter and his temptation.

-The Savior:  Jesus came to deliver us from sin and give us Victory over temptation. (See Luke 1:74&75), it is important to note that a sinner is not tempted, he is still a slave to sin hence he lives in sin, only one that has been saved by Jesus Christ, that can be tempted to forsake him, or to commit sin (read 1 John 3:5-9) it is through Jesus' death and resurrection that we can be free from sin, and live a virtuous life over sin.

-Self denial, sacrifice and service: several times Jesus reiterated these points as condition for following him, because, except we deny ourselves of somethings, we cannot live victorious over temptation, hence we cannot be a disciple of Christ. These three talks about delebrate avoidance of some basic necessities that are offered on a platter of an appearance of evil, also intentional submission, and devotedness to the will of God, and absolute surrender to the cause of Christ, with the aim of winning souls to the kingdom.

-Saintly equipping: Also to live victorious, saints must have the following in their Armoury; Righteousness, Truth and sincerity, Evangelism and soul winning, Faith, asurrance of Salvation, the reading the word of God, watchfulness against appearance of evil, perseverance and supplication for all saints.  Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.(read also, Ephesians 6:11, 13-18)

Challenge:  There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. 1 Corinthians 10:13

Prayer: Lead me not into temptation but deliver me from evil, let me learn to live in your Victory, in Jesus name. Amen

Topic: The Good Fight of Faith

Text: Jude 1

Key text: Jude 1:3

Discussion: As believers in Christ it is important for us to know that we are not of this world, we are pilgrims, we are journeying to Heaven and Jesus already said this in John 15:19 he said "If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you." We have been saved and therefore chosen out of the world. But as long as we live in this world, the world wants to allure us back unto itself, the world strives to make us loose sight of Heaven and focus on the things of this world, therefore we are exhorted to earnestly contend, to defend our faith in God, to defend our salvation, delivered once unto the saint

There are three important things to note, Our salvation, the enemies of our salvation, and the fight against them.

-Our salvation: this is the benefits we receive through the substitutional death of Christ for the sin of the world That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. ( John 3:15 ) the word whosoever makes this a universal salvation, that is why Jude said it is a common salvation.
This salvation is available to everyone, God's will for all human is that we are saved, Joel already prophesied it, and the author of Acts quotes it that it shall come to pass  that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. (Acts 2:21)

if you are a sinner you can be changed, you can be saved, this salvation is for you, just turn to Jesus and say, Jesus, I believe you died for me, have Mercy on me, forgive my sins, and you shall be saved.

Our enemies: having Obtained salvation by Grace, we are to cherish this salvation and guard it jealously, for there are contenders that will tend to snatch it from us, and the source of this contention is Satan, he is the one who will come in several means in other to ensure we lose our salvation, some of the strategy Satan uses are; Sin, self (flesh) and worldliness,

Satan tries to lure us into outright sin, but when that fails he tries to use the flesh, (your desires, your wishes, your need, he dangles the image of them at you so that you will try to have them, but he will set sin on the way so that as you attempt to get those things you will stumble into sin.

When all these strategy does not work he uses the world, the world uses corruption, flattery, and persecution, to entice, to ensnare and finally entrap saints into sin, .

Those are the enemies, and that's the strategy, However, whatever be the strategy,  God is able to keep you from falling that is why Jude said "Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy." (Jude 1:24)

Our fight: Romans 8:13 points it clear to us the role of the flesh, how if we allow the flesh it will lead to death(sin), but if we allow the spirit, to mortify(kill or deny) the deed(desire and demand) of the flesh, we shall live, hence our fight should be against the flesh.
But what are we to fight and kill in the flesh that are highlighted in 1 Timothy 6:4-5, 8-10, 12
They include, Pride, envy, strife, railings, evil surmising, perverseness, disputations, corruption in the minds,  incontinent, lust, pursuit of money and riches and more...
But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.
Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. (1 Timothy 6:11,12)

As we fight we should be sure that we have the victory since Jesus already said "I have overcome the world".

Challenge: Are you fighting the Good fight of Faith against the real enemy(Satan, Sin, Self) or bad fight off unbelief against God's creatures?

Prayer: I receive the Grace to enter into the reality of victory in Jesus' Blood

Topic: The Garment of an Harlot

Text: Genesis 38

Key text: Genesis 38:15  When Judah saw her, he thought her to be an harlot; because she had covered her face.

Discussion: It is common to hear people saying, "The way you dress, you will be addressed" but this is fast losing its meaning, people now don't care the way they are addressed, young people now find it convenient to dress indecently with the pretense "It doesn't matter".
Dear reader, the way you dress really matters, the reason why rape, and sexual assault is on the rise these days is because of the rise in indecent dressing, which has sent an immoral message, which resulted in the eventual rape.
Apart from the rape consequence, there are other consequences, but the Greatest consequence is that of God's anger, the word of God teaches us to cover our nakedness, hence, we should not expose our nakedness, in disguise of fashion or beauty. Let your nakedness be properly covered.

Judah fell into the trap of Tamar's seductive dressing, what a lesson should we learn? It is important to know that sinners will continue to wax worse and worse, seducing, deceiving and been deceived of Satan lest they be saved, it is therefore important, to keep thyself pure against the indecency of the sinner, flee from all appearance of evil, lest you are caught up in the Devil's trap.

Salvation is the first step towards from from sin, if you are not free from Sin then you need Jesus, Let Jesus come into your heart.

Challenge: How do you dress: to please God or to seduce men?

Prayer: Let the whole of my Life please you.

Steps to Salvation

Steps to Salvation

-Accept that you are a sinner, "for all have sinned"(Romans 3:23)

- Accept the truth that Jesus died for your sins, and that only by him can you escape and get saved (Act 4:12)

-Confess your sins with a sincere heart, because, "if we confess our sins he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness". (1John 1:8)

- Determine not to go back into those sins, by forsaking them totally and all the things that can draw you back into them and pray for mercy.(Proverb 28:13).

PRAY THIS PRAYER: Jesus, I thank you for your death on the cross for my sin, I accept that I am a sinner and I confess my sin before you now, (MENTION THOSE SINS YOU COMMIT), Lord forgive me all my sins, blot away my sins, wash and cleanse me with your blood, write my name in the Book Of Life. I acknowledge you as my personal Lord and Saviour and promise not to go back into my sins anymore, IN JESUS NAME I HAVE PRAYED. AMEN.

NOW THAT YOU HAVE ESCAPED SHOW OTHERS THE ROUTE TO THE ESCAPE CORNER.

Jesus the source of my life

I am living because Jesus lives inside of me, he is my life,  He gave me the breath of life. The moment you send Jesus out of your life, you are dead for in him we have our life, because he came, that all men might have life.

If you have not accepted him as your Lord and savior you are a walking corpse except you repent and turn to God for the gift of Life through Jesus Christ.

Sin is the line of separation, for God so loved the world, But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear. For the dead has nothing to do with the living.

Will you continue in your deadness, or allow Jesus to bring you life, will you give up your source of life for a moment of sin?

Think on this things...

Give me thine heart.

Have you been to Jesus for the cleansing power
are you washed in the blood of Jesus?

Are you now sinless and totally pure like God command ("be ye holy for I am holy"), has sin, the work of the devil been destroyed in you?

Remember! Without holiness no man shall see the lord. Will you continue in sin and go to Hell, or will you repent and accept Jesus the only one who can set you free from sin, that you might make it to the glorious delight in Heaven.

Jesus is calling again today, he says

         Son(daughter) give me your heart.

Watchfulness for Christ's return

Jesus said, behold I come quickly, but can you say, even so, come Lord Jesus, are you free from sin or you are still falling and rising, are you watching while waiting, or you are tired of waiting and now backslidden?
Is it only when preachers preach frightening messages, that you check up your life?
If that is your condition then, you need a U-turn it is high time you brace up, for now is our salvation closer than when we believe, hence Christ admonished us to Watch and Pray, what are we to watch:
watch your:

Salvation- watch, if the things you claim to be saved from are not quietly creeping back into your life, if they are, pray them out!

Consecration: watch, if the things you gave up for the cause of Christ have not been taken up again, the friends you forsook to follow Jesus are they not back. The consecration you had some time back, when you had a fresh relationship with Jesus, is it still there, your willingness to suffer loss for the cross and cause of Christ is it there? If they are not you need to restore them with prayer.

Devotion: watch your devotion(Bible reading, prayer & worship )- the place where you got renewal, from the presence of God, is it still a regular fellowship with God or a dry routine, if it has been dry, God can bring back life to your dry devotion, and it will become heaven on earth, so Pray!

Holiness: watch your holiness, it is your passport to heaven, for without holiness no man shall see the Lord.

It is then, when all these things listed above are still intact, that you can say,

         Even so, come Lord Jesus

The coming of the Lord draws near.
Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.
