Bethel or Babel?

Text: Genesis 11:1-7;  35:1

Discussion:

God gave a commandment to men in Gen 9:1 to be fruitful and multiply and replenish the whole earth, but contrary to this man decided to come together in one place, thus they began to build Babel, the aftermath of which was a later destruction, and confusion of their languages.

On the contrast, God commanded Jacob to go Back to Bethel, Bethel was where he first met God while he was fleeing from his brother, and there he got comfort, assurance and promises of God, Bethel was a place of renewal, and empowerment.

The characteristic of Bethel and Babel.

- Bethel was a place of prayer to God, but, Babel was a place of planning against God's will.

- Bethel was a place of Divine intervention, Babel was a place of Divine interruption.

- Bethel was a place of Unity with God but Babel was a place of Unity against God.

- Bethel was a place of repentance, Babel was a place of rebellion against God.

If what you are doing is against the will of God you are building a Babel, it may appear great and unstoppable but, When God look down on you, it will be a disaster and destruction,

Today, if with obedience you will listen to God, and do his will, you may appear weak, frustrated and forsaken, but this morning, if you will go back to Bethel, the place of prayer, purity and power, you will be strengthened, reinvigorated, and revived, there you will get Divine revelation for progress.

What are you building: an Altar or a tower, where are you building in Bethel or Babel, why are you building: to do God's will it to go against it, with whom are you Building: with rebels or with God?

Challenge: Are you building a tower in Babel or an altar in Bethel?

Prayer: Lord I come to Bethel, Revive me again.
