Understanding the Baptism in the Name of Jesus

Understanding the Baptism in the Name of Jesus

Acts 19:5

When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

Many people have confused  this to mean baptism in water, but looking at the preceding verse Acts 19:4-5 Then said Paul, ...that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.

When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

Paul  was standing  there still speaking telling them about  the need for salvation, it was the teaching of Paul that led to their conviction, this conviction, and absolute Faith in the name of Jesus is what the scriptures  refer to as been "baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus"

Other usage

Acts 2:38

Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

They were to believe in the name of Jesus for the remission of sins,  and this was rendered as "baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ"

Acts 8:16

(For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.)

The baptism here does not also refer to the water baptism in (Acts 8:12 (KJV)  But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.) it talks of their conviction and Faith in Jesus for the remission of their sins, hence they were saved (believed ...the name of Jesus), after which they were baptized in water (both men and women), but not yet baptized in the Holy Ghost.
