Topic : Who is your Leader?
Text: Exodus 32, 33, 34
Key Text: Exodus 32:1 And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of the mount, the people gathered themselves together unto Aaron, and said unto him, Up, make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him.
Discussion: welcome once again, today we are considering the effect of Leadership on the followers, our passage today, shows, two types of leaders, the Compromising Leader, and the Courageous leader, talking of Aaron and Moses.
Israel saw that Moses delayed, and went unto Aaron, that he should rear up an Idol unto them, this is the picture of what goes on in the world today, when there is a delay in getting something they really desire, they go for an alternative not Considering if it displeased God.
Unfortunately their leaders are also like them, they easily give in to pressure, like Aaron did. If your leader is a compromiser like Aaron, doom awaits you at the end, just as God was ready to destroy Israel, but for a Courageous leader like Moses.
Moses was a different leader, he leads, to the way of righteousness, he knew sin is sin, and must be repented of, see how he called for amend in verse 26 he said who is on the Lord's Side, he knew clearly that sin hath separated them from God but was calling them to come to the Lord's side, only the tribe of Levi came, and yet he will not bend, his conviction to excuse their sin, After that he went ahead to plead for their sin, we are learning here that a leader, must not only be Courageous in fight, valiant in prayer of deliverance, but also ready to lead the people to God in repentance.
Moses was self sacrificing, will hat God will blot his own name from the book of life at the expense of the whole Israel, God heard him and promised to send his Angel before them to lead them.
Moses will not be contended by an angel at the expense of God's Presence hence he pleaded with God, for his Glory that results from his presence, and God said "... My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest." many leaders will be satisfied without the presence, but not Moses, for it is the Presence hat brings assurance.
Moses returned from the presence of God with his face radiating the Glory of God, that's a leader that can really be Courageous, he is once filled with the Glory of God rather sweet enticing words.
We have seen a number of lessons from Moses, that he was an uncompromising, Courageous, self sacrificing, and one who insist on the presence of God, what a challenge to you? That if your leader is the reverse of this characteristics, you need to change your leader, for when you are down they will dig your grave rather than pull you up again.
Challenge: who is your leader, Moses or Aaron?
Prayer: Make me a Courageous leader over the areas of my influence.
