Topic: The call and compromise of Abram, and the Compassion of God
Text: Genesis 12
Key text: Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee (Genesis 12:1)
Discussion: today we are looking at a man whom God called in his generation, out of his country, and from his kindred, and from his father's house, unto a land that he will show him thereafter, he was Abram, this was a call out of certainty to uncertainty if this were a call from man, but then he knew this was not a call from man this is a call from the creator of the heaven and the earth, he who was able to do all things and hence when he heard he responded “So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him” we see a prompt obedience, hence when the Lord speaks to us we should promptly Obey, there is blessing in Obedience.
Having got to the Land where God sent him the first thing he did was to setup an altar, this tells us that When God calls us he calls us out of the crowd into a chosen place where he expects us have an altar built, this is an altar of Praise and prayer, where we can appreciate, make our request known unto God.
Soon the famine was great and Abram had to move to Egypt, but this was a downward Journey out of the presence of God, this led him to seek a Deceptive way of protecting himself, and this made him loose his wife Sarai, but God in his compassion did not allow Pharaoh to have Sarai, by plaguing the Pharaoh and his family. Hence we should not let our predicament push us out of the presence of God.
Challenge: To whom shall we go? Thou hast the words of eternal life.
Prayer: Lord let not my feet be moved from your presence.
